Innovation can be defined as the introduction of a new product, process of service that solves a known problem, or satisfies an “unmet” or “poorly met” need. But in the 21st century, the idea that innovation only brings solutions to known problems, should be challenged.
This class will consider the broad context of innovation, including the importance of understanding how to bring solutions to conscious AND unconscious needs. It will also explore Africa’s innovation opportunities, tackling the fundamental question of “how can Africa’s resources, including minerals, agriculture, youthful population, intellectual talents, among others, be leveraged to drive innovation and position the continent as a relevant and successful player in the global marketplace?”
